How OEMs Select Control Arm Manufacturers: Five Verifiable Capabilities

2026-08-13

When selecting a control arm manufacturer for OEMsupportingprojects, the core is to examine five verifiable capabilities: an IATF 16949 quality system that can withstand on-site audits, process depth covering forging/casting/stamping, bench verification completed according to public standards, accredited laboratories that can issue traceable reports, and production capacity that can maintain delivery after mass production. Certificates can only get suppliers to the starting line; what determines long-term cooperation is the ability to verify these five items with supporting documents.

First, the IATF 16949 quality management system is the basic threshold for automotive component suppliers. This certification not only requires the enterprise to have a complete quality management system but also requires the enterprise to have the ability to continuously improve and prevent problems. When choosing a supplier, it is important to verify the validity of the certificate and understand the supplier's audit history and improvement measures.

Second, process depth is an important indicator for measuring a supplier's technical capabilities. Excellent control arm manufacturers should have multiple process capabilities such as forging, casting, and stamping, and be able to choose the most suitable process based on product requirements. Forging processes can provide higher strength and better fatigue performance, casting processes can achieve more complex shapes, and stamping processes have cost advantages for mass production.

Third, bench verification is a key link in verifying product performance. Suppliers should be able to conduct various tests according to public standards, including fatigue testing, strength testing, corrosion resistance testing, etc., and provide detailed test reports. These reports should include test conditions, test results, and analysis of whether they meet standards.

Fourth, accredited laboratories are an important guarantee for testing capabilities. Suppliers should have their own laboratories or cooperate with accredited third-party laboratories to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results. Laboratory equipment should be regularly calibrated and maintained to ensure the validity of test results.

Finally, production capacity is the foundation for ensuring on-time delivery. Suppliers should have sufficient production equipment andhuman resourcesto meet customer order needs. At the same time, suppliers should have emergency response capabilities to handle sudden order increases or production emergencies.
