The Audi A6 C7 (2011–2018) front suspension is a multi-link structure: each side has four aluminum control arms, a total of eight per front axle, each with a ball joint and bonded bushing. The multi-link front suspension is one of Audi'shallmarktechnologies, providing excellent handling stability and comfort. However, this complex structure also means more wear points. Each control arm has a ball joint and bushing, which are the most common failure points.
When the control arm fails, the most common symptoms are: abnormal noise when going over bumps, vehicle pulling to one side, steering wheel vibration, and uneven tire wear. If you find that the tire inner or outer edge is wearing abnormally fast, or there is a "clunking" sound from the front of the car when going over speed bumps, it is likely that the control arm ball joint or bushing has failed.
When replacing the control arm, it is recommended to replace the left and right sides simultaneously. Because the control arm is a safety component, if one side fails, the other side is usually also close to the end of its service life.
